About ITC

Here's what we do during the week...
Immersive Bible Teaching & Reflections

Morning Sessions

Hear clear Bible talks that model the disciplines of Exegesis, Biblical Theology, and Systematic Theology being taught in the strand groups.

Our 2026 conference will see Dave teach from the book of 1 & 2 Kings on the topic "The Lord is My God." We’ll explore how to listen, trust, and obey God even when faith feels hard — through the story of the prophet Elijah, a man who faced exhaustion, pressure, and doubt yet never gave up.

The morning sessions will also include singing together, various spots and interviews, and a time of guided personal and small group reflection.

About David Walter

David Walter serves Jesus amongst Uni students across the South Pacific, with IFES. He also coaches leaders with AFES. He says that his two best decisions where accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour when he was 6 years old, and asking Cathy to marry him a number of years later. The fact that they both accepted him, David counts as incredible works of grace.

Strand Groups

The core of our conference is our strand material aimed at training people to teach God’s Word faithfully. Our strand sessions run for two hours each morning.

ITC is designed so that, ideally, delegates return for at least 3 years to complete each strand in succession.

Strand 1:
Exegesis

Learn how to accurately read, understand and then teach a Bible passage.

This strand is for those who are attending Ignite for the first time.

Strand 2:
Biblical Theology

See that the entire storyline of the Bible is about salvation in Jesus, and identify and understand how any given Bible passage fits into this story.

This strand is for those who have completed Strand 1 in a prior year.

Strand 3:
Systematic Theology

Work out how to determine and understand what the Bible says about a given topic.

This strand is for those who have completed Strand 1-2 in previous years.

Strand 4:
Transforming Hearts by the Word

Understanding Scripture is only part of the work of teaching and discipling others. We also need to think about how that word applies to the hearts of the people we teach. Strand 4 takes all the tools and lessons of Strands 1-3 and focuses on how it transforms people. We’ll take time to think about how Scripture changes us and work through some exercises applying different genres of Scripture that we haven’t look at so far in Strand groups. These skills will equip you to teach and disciple others more effectively - and hopefully deepen your own walk with God!

This strand is for those who have completed Strands 1-3 in previous years.

Strand 5:
Writing a Bible Talk

Helping men & women communicate the point and purpose of God's Word in a clear and engaging way.

What is Strand 5

Strand 5 is designed to equip you with the skills and insights to structure and deliver a message which conveys the biblical author's intent whether you’re speaking to children, youth, or a church service.

We’ll explore key elements of effective expository preaching and through practical exercises and guided feedback, you’ll learn how to write and present a talk/sermon that seeks to communicate all that God intends for his people to hear.

What we'll cover

• Recapping the basics of exegeting a passage to understand its main point and purpose

• Structuring a talk to make it easy to follow and understand

• Applications that take the point and purpose of a passage and go deep and personal

• Understanding your audience/setting, to tailor the message appropriately

• Understanding your voice and how to use this tool well

Who should attend

Strand 5 is open to men and women, church leaders, aspiring preachers, and anyone interested in developing the skills to share God’s word clearly and faithfully.

Whether you’re just beginning, or looking to refine your preaching, Strand 5 provides practical tools to help you communicate effectively.

PLEASE NOTE:
Pre-requisite to Strand 5 involve completions of Strands 1-3 at Ignite or other similar conferences.

More information

Ignite Training Conference holds complementarian convictions regarding the role of men and women in the church.

We desire to train both men and women to read and teach the Bible in various and appropriate contexts and encourage delegates to engage with your church or ministry’s convictions on these matters.
Practical Ministry Workshops & Skills

Afternoon Workshops

Over the afternoons of the conference, workshops are presented by theologically-trained church or ministry workers.

These run for 90 minutes with the aim of further equipping delegates through practical ministry skills, ministries exposure, and applied and pastoral theology.

At Ignite 2026, we have two brand new 3-day workshop streams:

Christian Leadership

Iggy Wong, Lead Pastor CPE Church

Why does leadership matter? Because Jesus has entrusted His church with a mission far bigger than any one person — to make disciples of all nations. That mission moves forward not by accident, but through faithful, intentional leaders who cultivate healthy foundations, shepherd their own hearts, and empower others to grow.

In this workshop we’ll explore the biblical foundations of Christian leadership, learning how God shapes His people to influence with humility and conviction. We’ll look at leading yourself, building the character, habits, and resilience needed for long-term faithfulness. And we’ll dive into leading others, developing practical skills for guiding teams, nurturing volunteers, and creating a culture where disciples flourish.

Come be equipped, encouraged, and sharpened for the work God has called you to. Let’s lead in a way that helps the church make disciples — with clarity, character and Christ-centred conviction.

Kids Ministry

Fiona Millar, Queensland Theological College

Nothing matters more than children receiving the foundational truths that turn their eyes and hearts to see and savour Jesus as we faithfully teach the word in age appropriate ways and model and disciple children week to week.

These afternoons will provide you with scaffolding for kids ministry:  gospel-shaped leaders; gospel shaped programme; and understanding the what why and how of  teaching and discipling children in God’s Upside down Kingdom.
